Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar asked the leadership of the Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM) to adopt a public stand in defence of the judiciary system, in the context of the campaign carried out by people facing judiciary procedures, some of them even with final sentences, against the justice institutions.
Augustin Lazar "firmly rejected" the extrapolation of the procedural incidents and particular cases of magistrates under disciplinary investigation to the entire activity of the prosecutors, reads a release of the Prosecutor's Office attachted to High Court of Cassation and Justice (PICCJ) sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
"The judiciary has rigorous legal procedures for investigation into suspicions of disciplinary misconduct, including of the type that appeared in the media," says the release.
According to the same source, the general prosecutor denies what he called "such public incitement actions with politicians intervening in the judicial activity for dismissing some prosecutors in high offices," while ignoring the judiciary procedures stipulated by law and violating the constitutional principle of the separation of state powers.
"The prosecutor general trusts the capacity of the Romanian judicial system to accomplish its mission of carrying out the justice act at European standards. Moreover, he showed trust in the judiciary's capacity to self-regulate, through the identification and solving of all procedural incidents and particular cases of misconduct, according to the legal procedures. As the CVM [Cooperation and Verification Mechanism] also shows, Romania's problem is not the faulty functioning of the judiciary, but the attempt to prevent the fight against corruption," shows a release of the PICCJ.
