PSD president Sorin Grindeanu declared on Wednesday that Romania must respond positively to the invitation of the President of the United States of America to be part of the Board of Peace that he will lead, emphasizing that the necessary funds will be identified.
"This Board of Peace stemmed from a happy experience, the peace in Gaza. This is where it all started. They want to expand that experience. (...) Yesterday I heard President Macron in his speech, in which he said that last year there were at least 60 conflicts worldwide. So something like this is needed. We are starting from an experience, let's say, positive, Gaza. Secondly, and this is not about servility, but about realism, when the main security provider for your country, in this case Romania, extends you an invitation to participate in a Board of Peace, you say 'yes' without reservations and the costs are never too high as long as we are talking about security. And yes, there are sums to be found. It is about a billion, if I am not mistaken. My opinion is that we should not even discuss something like this. We are talking, first of all, of the strategic partner, the main security provider," Grindeanu said on Antena 3 CNN.
He added that, so far, President Nicusor Dan has acted correctly.
"Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow there is a European Council. They probably want to see the views of the other members of the Council, the other 26 members. After that we have to express ourselves, because delaying is not good from this point of view. And, from my point of view, we have to express ourselves positively. (...) I believe that in these weeks, in these months, the world is changing. It is obvious. We all see this. Romania cannot remain outside. We look and talk to the moon and the stars while others are preparing and organizing. That is why this period of analysis is good, but it should not last very long. Of course, we are part of the European Union. It is very important to see what the other members of the European Union say and I think that this was and is the reasoning for which the president took this delay. But after we can no longer remain in a hidden area. Because that's how we are now", concluded Sorin Grindeanu.
About 60 states were invited by Donald Trump to be part of a Board of Peace, proposed by the leader from the White House.
The Presidential Administration confirmed, on Sunday, the receipt of the letter sent by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, to the Romanian head of state, which officially invites our country to become a member of the Board of Peace.
