Romanian Red Cross to organise Health Marathon diabetes prevention campaign

The Romanian Red Cross will organise on Tuesday, on the occasion of World Health Day, the national campaign 'Health Marathon - Prevention Saves Lives,' a large-scale diabetes prevention initiative which will include screening events held simultaneously in all counties of the country.

According to a press release, the event is part of the national calendar dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Romanian Red Cross.

'The initiative aims to raise awareness of the risks of diabetes, the importance of early detection and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. During the events, participants will benefit from free blood glucose testing, risk assessments and useful information on prevention and disease management,' the quoted source informs.

In Bucharest, the screening events will be organised on 6 and 7 April 2026, with the participation of Red Cross branches, at the following locations and according to the following schedule:

In Sector 5 - Tuesday, between 9.00 and 16.00, in Constitution Square
In Sector 1 - Monday and Tuesday, between 11.00 and 14.00, at the Columns - Romana Square (Romanian Red Cross branded tents)
In Sector 2 - Tuesday, between 10.00 and 16.00, in front of the Sector 2 City Hall
In Sector 3 - Monday and Tuesday, between 10.30 and 12.00, at the 'Codrii Neamtului' Seniors' Club and the 'Ramnicu Sarat' Seniors' Club
In Sector 4 - Tuesday, between 12.00 and 18.00, in Sun Plaza Mall and Grand Arena Mall
In Sector 5 - Tuesday, between 09.00 and 12.00, at the Viilor Economic College (Sos. Viilor, No. 34-38, ground floor, direct access from the street) and on the Esplanade in George Cosbuc Square (Romanian Red Cross branded tent)

Through the 'Health Marathon - Prevention Saves Lives,' the Romanian Red Cross aims to bring prevention services closer to communities and to encourage the public to pay greater attention to their own health.

'Prevention is essential in the fight against diabetes. Through this campaign, we aim to provide people with easy access to testing and accurate information, thus contributing to early detection and reducing the complications associated with this condition,' said Raluca Buzea, Health Programmes Manager with the Romanian Red Cross.

At national level, events will take place in locations accessible to the general public, such as markets, shopping centres, Red Cross branch headquarters or other central venues in each county.
