Traditional products for the Easter meal have become significantly more expensive in the last year, with the largest price increases being recorded for cocoa powder, chocolate and walnuts, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), sent at the request of AGERPRES.
According to INS data, analyzed for February 2026 compared to February 2025, cocoa powder leads the price increases, with a 46.33% increase, followed by chocolate, which increased in price by 29.02%.
Other basic ingredients for traditional Easter dishes saw significant price increases: walnut kernels (+17.48%) and cozonac (+15.66%). Eggs went up by 14.3%, and bread by 10.12%.
Other products frequently used in holiday-specific preparations recorded more moderate increases: simple or mixed rahat (+9.11%), mutton and lamb (+8.85%), rum essence (+7.68%) and wine (+6.9%).
Cheeses had lower increases: cow's cheese (telemea) by 6.33% and sheep's cheese (telemea) by 3.69%.
Some fresh products had moderate evolutions or even price decreases: green onions (+2.78%), lettuce (+1.8%), and spring radishes became cheaper by 5.51%.
