The population in the north of Tulcea County received a new RO-ALERT message on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, against the backdrop of the war launched by Russia in Ukraine, after radar systems detected 17 aerial targets in the border area.
In the extreme alert message, the authorities warned the population about the possibility of objects falling from the airspace.
According to the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), two F-16 aircraft on air policing combat service took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea, and anti-aircraft systems were put into firing positions.
The National Military Command Centre (core) notified the Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) in order to implement measures to alert the population in the north of Tulcea County, the RO-ALERT message being sent at 3:44.
"Radar systems monitored a group of 17 aerial targets that evolved in the border area without entering national airspace. The air alert ended at 5:10," the Ministry of National Defence informed.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the population in four counties in Romania has received over 70 extreme alert messages, most of them recorded in Tulcea County.
