Medical and pharmaceutical research, healthcare investment, and screening and prevention protocols were among the topics discussed in Washington DC by Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete with John F. Steele, Executive Vice President of Lilly Diabetes and Obesity at Eli Lilly and Company.

The minister said in a Facebook post that the meeting addressed areas such as the development of medical and pharmaceutical research, investment in innovative healthcare start-ups, strengthening the research and development ecosystem, and expanding screening and prevention protocols.

A key point of the discussions focused on patients with metabolic diseases, particularly those suffering from obesity and diabetes.

According to the health minister, prevention and early detection must become central pillars of the healthcare system, while international partnerships can help accelerate this process.

"Without private investment in research and strong partnerships, the healthcare system remains stuck in reaction rather than prevention. And the cost of inaction is paid every day by patients. I know that not all results are immediately visible. But properly built partnerships represent a step forward for the system and, above all, for people. We will continue to develop strategic partnerships for a stronger, more modern healthcare system, better adapted to the needs of 2026," Alexandru Rogobete added.

The health minister is currently on a visit to Washington DC.
