Gov't approves draft law on state social insurance budget for 2026

The Government approved, during the extraordinary meeting held on Thursday evening, the draft law on the state social insurance budget for 2026, according to Agerpres.

According to a press release from the Executive, the social insurance budget for 2026 is built on total revenues of 159,129.5 million lei, of which 158,743 million lei correspond to the public pension system (99.8%) and 386.5 million lei correspond to the insurance system for workplace accidents and occupational diseases (0.2%).

The subsidy received by the state social insurance budget from the state budget amounts to 31,419.2 million lei.

Total expenditure of the state social insurance budget stands at 158,908.9 million lei, of which 158,743 million lei are allocated to the public pension system (99.9%) and 165.9 million lei to the insurance system for workplace accidents and occupational diseases (0.1%).

Funds allocated for the payment of pensions from the public pension system in 2026 amount to 154,755 million lei, representing 7.6% of GDP.

Total revenues of the unemployment insurance budget for 2026 were estimated at 4,030 million lei, of which 3,412.8 million lei correspond to the unemployment insurance system (84.7%) and 617.1 million lei correspond to the guarantee fund for the payment of salary claims (15.3%), the quoted source says.

Through the unemployment insurance budget, financing was provided in 2026 for expenditure totalling 3,425.7 million lei, of which 3,038.4 million lei correspond to the unemployment insurance system (88.7%) and 387.3 million lei to the guarantee fund for the payment of salary claims (11.3%), the Executive mentions.

The unemployment insurance system is scheduled to record a surplus of 374.4 million lei in 2026, while the guarantee fund for the payment of salary claims is scheduled to record a surplus of 229.8 million lei.

The draft law was adopted by the Government and is to be sent on Friday morning to Parliament for debate and approval.
