Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Bucharest on Thursday, said the United States as well as more than ten other countries in Europe and the Middle East have asked Ukraine for assistance in shooting down drones after the war in the Middle East began.
"Now, after the start of a new war in the Middle East, it is very clear that the security of every nation is extremely important. The United States and more than ten countries in Europe and the Middle East have already approached Ukraine and asked us for support in shooting down drones. Our experts are already in the Middle East and we believe that in our region, across Europe and in other European countries, there is a need for more cooperation and for the implementation of the expertise we have accumulated over time, which can be very useful," the Ukrainian president said at a joint press conference with President Nicusor Dan at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.
Zelenskyy also referred to the documents signed in Bucharest on Thursday, which concern cooperation in the defence sector and the development of defence capabilities.
"We are continuing our cooperation and propose expanding cooperation between our countries to defend ourselves against all the dangers that may come from Russia - dangers that appear every day and are not only a threat to Ukraine. We see the danger posed by drones. We have a joint declaration on developing defence capabilities. We have a document on cooperation in defence and it is a step in the right direction towards strengthening cooperation between our countries. Romania is willing to cooperate with Ukraine in the context of SAFE and I thank it for supporting our European path," he added.
The Ukrainian president thanked Romania for the "principled" stance it has maintained over the past four years since Russia launched its war against his country.
"Russia must not be allowed to act unchecked in Europe. It is an aggressor investing heavily in destabilising states and destroying the normal fabric of life. It strikes our country with missiles and we do not wish anyone to experience such moments," he stressed.
