As many as 13 organisations from the European digital identity ecosystem - wallet providers, certificate authorities and technology developers - participated in an interoperability exercise in Bucharest designed to test the European digital identity wallet, technology developer certSIGN reported on Thursday.
"During the tests, the participants verified, in real life conditions, the ability of the systems to communicate and function integrated, an essential step for the large-scale implementation of the European digital identity. The Romanian technology company certSIGN participated in tests with its own sandbox, a complete infrastructure that includes the technical solution for EUDI Wallet, digital identity issuance through the proprietary certME solution, issuance and verification of Qualified Electronic Attestations of Attributes, strict authentication and electronic signature through CSC API v2.2. certSIGN's solutions have been tested to verify the correct communication with the systems developed by other European companies, demonstrating that the reliable Romanian infrastructure is compatible and ready for the European ecosystem. The results of the exercise highlight concrete progress towards a unitary digital ecosystem, which will allow citizens to manage their identity and data in a secure, simple and transparent way," the release states.
The test exercise involved 13 organisations from the European digital identity ecosystem, from wallet providers and certificate authorities to technology developers.
For two days, 44 interoperability tests were carried out, of which 36 were successfully completed.
"The tests validated that independent implementations inside the ecosystem can successfully interoperate in real life signing scenarios and demonstrate that the EUDI Wallet ecosystem is poised to facilitate access to digital ID services," the company notes.
Romania hosted, March 17-18, 2026, an important interoperability exercise dedicated to the European Digital Identity Wallet - CSC Interoperability Event EUDI Wallet 2026.
The event was organised by the Cloud Signature Consortium (CSC), with support from certSIGN, and brought together digital wallet providers, certification authorities and technology developers from across the European Union (EU).
Recently, senior official with the General Directorate for Electronic Communications, Policies and Strategies in Digitalisation of the Ministry of the Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT)Corneliu Manescu said at the Cybersecurity Forum conference that Romania must implement, by the end of 2026, at least one e-wallet tool.
Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 says that EU member states must, by the end of 2026 at the latest, make available to citizens and residents at least one certified European Union Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) - a solution that must comply with the same technical and security requirements throughout the European area.
The Cloud Signature Consortium is an international group of industry, government and academic organisations dedicated to promoting the standardisation of secure and compliant electronic signatures in the cloud.
certSIGN is a Romanian technology company specialising in developing solutions for information security and providing reliable services.
