The volume of construction works decreased, as an unadjusted series, by 2.4% in January this year compared with the same period in 2025, and by 0.9% as a series adjusted depending on the number of business days and seasonality, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the statistics, in unadjusted terms and by structural elements, declines were recorded in major repair works (-5.2%) and in new construction works (-3.3%). Maintenance and current repair works increased by 3.8%.
By type of construction, decreases were recorded in non-residential buildings (-2.6%), civil engineering works (-2.5%) and residential buildings (-2.1%).
As an adjusted series, by structural elements, major repair works fell by 5.8%, while new construction works declined by 1.4%. Maintenance and current repair works increased by 3.4%.
By type of construction, the volume of construction works decreased in civil engineering works (-4.7%), non-residential buildings (-0.5%) and residential buildings (-0.2%).
In January 2026, the volume of construction works fell compared with December 2025 by 69% in unadjusted terms and by 4.6% as a series adjusted for the number of business days and seasonality.
During the reference mentioned, in unadjusted terms, the decline in construction works was recorded in maintenance and current repair works (-70.7%), major repair works (-69.3%) and new construction works (-68.4%).
By type of construction, decreases were recorded as follows: non-residential buildings (-75.1%), civil engineering works (-68.9%) and residential buildings (-57.8%).
As a series adjusted depending on the number of business days and seasonality, the decrease was recorded in new construction works (-7.8%). Major repair works and maintenance and current repair works increased by 13.6% and 4.7%, respectively.
By type of construction, the volume of construction works decreased in non-residential buildings (-22.1%) and residential buildings (-2.1%), while civil engineering works increased by 12.2%.
