The budget is the main instrument through which the state assumes its priorities and obligations towards citizens and I hope that politicians have learned an important lesson from this budget experience and put the party's interest far behind the people's interest, Minister of Investments and European Projects Dragos Pislaru said on Thursday.

"For years, Romania's budget has been messed up due to the ineptitude of politicians. All the wrong budgetary decisions made in the past years have led to a declining economy, higher interest rates on loans and, finally, to the corrective measures that we inevitably had to take to turn around a machine that was heading vertiginously towards the wall. In a governing coalition, differences of opinion between parties are natural. They are not a sign of weakness, but a normal consequence of the fact that different parties, with different histories, reflexes and priorities, decide to govern together. Yes, tensions are inherent, but what is important is how you manage them. If you treat them with political infantilism, with pride and with opportunistic calculations of the moment, they end up blocking any decision. But if you treat them with maturity, with responsibility and with respect for Romanians, they lead to solid compromises and good solutions for the country," the minister wrote on Facebook.

He stressed that, after heated discussions, the Coalition reached a compromise on Thursday that allows the adoption of the budget and signaled that politicians should remember from what has happened in recent days that the budget is not an image exercise.

"What politicians in the circus of these days should remember is that the budget is not an image exercise in which they come and flex their care for the vulnerable. The budget is the main instrument through which the state assumes its priorities and obligations towards citizens. No budget will ever please everyone," Pislaru mentioned.

He added that Romania is going through a complicated period and, precisely for that reason, "today it needs leaders who understand that the stakes are not the stage victory in a coalition dispute, but the capacity to govern responsibly, with respect for honest Romanians, who pay their taxes and duties".

"In the budget, as in football, everyone has the feeling that they are good at it. I hope with all my might that politicians have learned an important lesson from this budget experience and put the interest of the party far behind the interest of the people", pointed out Dragos Pislaru.
