The Arad border police on Wednesday found 23 migrants hidden in the trailer of a TIR truck stopped for checks on the A1 motorway, the driver being investigated for migrant trafficking.
According to a press release sent on Wednesday by the Arad Border Police, the truck was stopped as part of the unsystematic checks that take place on the roads near the border with Hungary.
"A TIR truck registered in Romania, driven by a Romanian citizen, was stopped for inspection. Following the inspection of the means of transport, 23 people, foreign citizens, without travel documents, were found in the cargo compartment. The people were taken over and transported to the sector headquarters for checks where, following these, our colleagues established that they are citizens of Iraq, India and Pakistan," the press release states.
The Romanian driver is currently being investigated for migrant smuggling, while the foreigners are being investigated for attempted fraudulent crossing of the state border.
