The Romanian newspaper "Gazeta de Herta", published in Chernivtsi, carries the complete list of all the soldiers in the region who died on the front,in the ongoing war unleashed by the Russian Federation.
The editor-in-chief of the publication, Vasile Bacu, says that hundreds of victims of the war that started four years ago come from the Romanian community in Ukraine.
"If we talk about the Chernivtsi region, we have about 1,800 people who are brought home and buried with honours, without taking into account those who are missing without a trace or who are prisoners. " "Gazeta de Herta" publishes every week tpictures of the fallen and in each group 10, 12 or 15 people are also soldiers and of Romanian origin," said Bacu.
The mayor of Ciuda, Anatol Pitul, expresses his concern that the number of young Romanians who are enrolled in the Ukrainian army and sent to the front is very high.
"We have six that we have already buried, but we have another 12 who are missing without notice. About 150 are still fighting on the front today. It's a high percentage. They are out to defend their country. A boy was enrolled; he had two deaf-mute parents. After two years and five months, they brought him home in a coffin. It was an extraordinarily great mourning, because everyone was crying for the parents who could not express their pain, because they could not speak," said the mayor of Ciudei, a small town where the Romanian community is a majority.
