The feature film "De capul nostru"/"On Our Own", directed by Tudor Cristian Jurgiu, a Romanian-Italian co-production, was awarded the CICAE Art Cinema Award on Saturday in the Forum section of the Berlin International Film Festival, according to the event's official website.

The prize, presented by the Confederation Internationale des Cinemas d'Art et d'Essai, recognises contemporary auteur cinema and supports the film's distribution within the global art-house cinema network, according to the Facebook page of the Rumanisches Kulturinstitut Berlin, agerpres reports.

"On Our Own" tells the story of a group of teenagers from a small town in Romania whose parents work abroad. Giving voice to a generation forced to grow up too soon, the film explores how the absence of adult involvement during adolescence can lead to loneliness, emotional instability and impulsive decisions, against the backdrop of a desperate need to belong. Lacking support and meaningful prospects, the young people build their own community, finding refuge among other children and teenagers in similar situations, according to the film's synopsis.

The leading roles are played by Denisa Vraja, Vlad Furtuna, Mara Diaconu Ducica, Sofia Vasiliu, Dominique Toma, Steliana Balacianu and Robert Radoveneanu.

The 76th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival is taking place from February 12 to 22, 2026.
