Romania's usable natural gas production stood at 7.503 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), in 2025, 67,500 toe below the previous year's level (down 0.9%), according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

On the other hand, last year, natural gas imports increased by 75% (an additional 1.368 million toe) against 2024, reaching almost 3.2 million toe, agerpres reports.

According to estimates by the National Commission for Strategy and Forecast (CNSP), natural gas production is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 1.7% until 2027. Thus, in the latest Energy Balance Forecast, production for 2025 was estimated at 7.79 million toe (up 1.5%), for 2026 at 7.907 million toe (up 1.5%), and for 2027 at 8.176 million toe (up 3.4%).

Regarding imports, a downward trend is anticipated, with a sharper reduction expected by 2027 (down 6%), in line with rising domestic production due to the commissioning of new capacities, while also taking into account continued transit to external markets.

CNSP estimated natural gas imports of 2.211 million toe for 2025 (down 7.6%), 2.150 million toe for 2026 (down 2.7%), and 2.022 million toe for 2027 (down 6%).
