Tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualifies for round of 16 in Dubai (WTA)

Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea qualified on Tuesday for the round of 16 of the WTA 1,000 tournament in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), with total prizes of 4,088,211 dollars, after defeating Czech Linda Noskova, the tenth seed, 6-1, 6-4.

Cirstea (35 years old, no. 32 WTA) won after only one hour and 10 minutes of play.

The Romanian, with 9 aces in this match, took her revenge against Linda Noskova (21 years old, no. 14 WTA), who defeated her in 2024, by 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, in the second round in Brisbane, in their only previous match.

Cirstea secured a cheque for 49,250 dollars and 120 WTA points, and in the round of 16 she will face the winner between Italian Jasmine Paolini (sixth seed) and Filipino Alexandra Eala.

In doubles, Jaqueline Cristian and Gabriela Ruse qualified for the quarterfinals after 6-7 (8/10), 6-3, 10-7 versus Russians Alexandra Panova/Diana Shnaider, after one hour and 47 minutes.

The Romanians secured a cheque for 30,400 dollars and 215 WTA points in doubles.
