Leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu announced on Sunday, in an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, that the Social Democrats will vote for the 2026 state budget law, but will submit the amendments they find necessary so that the budget also reflects their vision.
"Through this letter, I officially inform you that, during the meeting of the National Political Council of the Social Democratic Party, after analysing all rational arguments, we decided to vote for the state budget for 2026 - a budget sent to Parliament with an unacceptable delay. However, we shall support the amendments we find necessary so that the budget also includes our Social Democratic vision. Mr Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, I am addressing this open letter to you in my capacity as chairman of the Social Democratic Party, the main political formation in Parliament, in order to put an end to a simulated dialogue that has been taking place for far too long in the meetings of the governing coalition," the PSD leader's open letter reads, agerpres reports.
He mentions that his party entered government to bring stability and protection to Romanians, "not to be complicit in a disastrous economic experiment based on blind and deeply unfair austerity."
"We will submit amendments in Parliament to ensure full funding for the Solidarity Package, meaning support for 3.5 million families - pensioners with low incomes, children with disabilities, mothers or veterans, who have suffered the most as a result of the austerity measures of the past year," Sorin Grindeanu said.
