Chair of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Sorin Grindeanu said in a message posted on Wednesday that "political stability has played an extremely important role" in the year now ending, and that it "must remain the key to social and economic development" in 2026 as well, Agerpres reports.
"2025 was a year full of challenges. Externally, despite the conflict on the eastern border, Romania remained a pillar of regional security. In this context, domestically, political stability played an extremely important role. It must remain, in the year that begins, the key to social and economic development. Nor will 2026 be an easy year," the Social Democrat leader wrote on his Facebook page.
At the same time, he said that in 2026 he wants the current governing coalition to come forward with "balanced measures" that would "halt the budget deficit" and lead "gradually" to the resumption of growth in Romanians' living standards.
"I want us to come forward with balanced measures for Romanians, which will stop the budget deficit and gradually lead to the resumption of growth in living standards. I am pleased that Romania is ending the year with many positives as well. As a former Transport Minister, I appreciate that major infrastructure projects have continued and that 146 km of new high-speed roads have been opened to traffic," Sorin Grindeanu added.
He also said that, in his capacity as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, he has insisted and will continue to insist on "developing Romania's Strategic Partnerships and bilateral relations".
"All of these offer opportunities for major investments that can bring competitive advantages to the Romanian economy in the medium and long term," the PSD leader also pointed out, ending his message by wishing "happy holidays to everyone".
