Interim Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu informed on Monday that he carried out several meetings last week with Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare, who is set to present the budget revision in broad terms after holding discussions with the European Commission.
"Last week, I had meetings with the Finance Minister, Mr Nazare, so he can present to me and other colleagues in the party leadership an up-to-date situation, a budget revision, broadly speaking and a general image, if possible, because things are not very clear yet regarding the budget revision which is set to come in the next weeks. After an extremely good discussion which I want to acknowledge, it was agreed that today or tomorrow, following clarification with the European Commission on certain macroeconomic figures, Minister Nazare shall come and present the draft budget revision in an early stage, not fully clarified, but broadly outlining the main directions he intends (...) to pursue," Grindeanu stated at the PSD central headquarters after the party's National Standing Bureau (BPN) meeting.
He added that he agrees with several proposals in the second package of fiscal measures, but the Government must also continue investments.
"I agree with the following thing and I said that: I agree with taxing multinationals. I agree with taxing the outsourcing of profits from Romania. From the discussion I had, Minister Nazare is also concerned about this issue and I expect these things to be addressed. I am also concerned with finding suitable solutions, since we are talking about local authorities, such as the housing tax, for instance, which will increase by 70pct in the proposals we have seen in transparency, those taxes must remain with the local authorities. There are taxes which should remain there and, certainly, we can discuss the balancing amounts coming from the Government. Moreover, since we are talking about investments, (...), yes, investments must continue," the PSD leader stated.
