Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated on Wednesday that, in the coming days, things shall unblock in the governing coalition and important steps are to be taken in order to adopt the second package of fiscal measures.
Bolojan was asked at the Digi 24 private television station, if the governing coalition is in a deadlock and if the measures to reduce deficit could still be passed under these conditions.
"Indeed, the past few days, there was a situation in which the communication and the coalition meetings did not take place in normal conditions. As I told you, I have confidence in the responsibility of political decision-makers who decided to setup this coalition in order to get Romania out of the situation in which, after all, the parties, at least the PNL [National Liberal Party] and the PSD [Social Democratic Party] that are part of this coalition, bear a great responsibility for this matter. I have always acknowledged that the PNL, as a party which has been in the Government all these years, has an important responsibility and it is up to us to correct these things. And therefore, I believe that in the coming days, things will unblock and we will be able to take important steps in order to adopt this second package," Blojan stated.
He added that "there is no gain" from being Romania's Prime Minister in the situation in which the country is in.
"I simply accepted this great responsibility knowing that with the measures I will adopt, I risk compromising my public image. But that is not important. (...) But it is certain that we need to gather as quickly as possible, take these measures which are necessary and do what is needed for our country, for its budgetary, economic stability and, in this way, transfer to the people the confidence that we know what we are doing, explain the measures being adopted and make them, not applaud us, because they won't do that, but understand the things we carry out so that we can more easily move forward and, together, create conditions so that Romania can relaunch as of next year," he stated.
