Negative natural growth in Romania, in February

The natural growth of the Romanian population remained negative in February of this year, at minus 17,688 people, compared to minus 11,904 people in February 2021, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the quoted source, the number of live births registered in February 2022 was higher by 1 compared to the same month in 2021.

INS data show that the number of people who died in February 2022 was 5,785 higher than in February 2021. Thus, after the first three main causes of death, in February 2022 compared to February 2021, there were by 3,584 more deaths due to circulatory system diseases, by 1,919 more deaths due to respiratory system diseases and by one more death due to tumors.

At the same time, the number of children under the age of one who died was 5 times lower in February 2022 than in February 2021.

In February 2022, 14,003 people (7,376 men and 6,627 women) died in urban areas, and 15,502 people (8,227 men and 7,275 women) died in rural areas.

Compared to the same month in 2021, the number of people who died increased by 2,198 people (1,185 men and 1,013 women) in urban areas and by 3,587 people (1,920 men and 1,667 women) in rural areas.

In addition, the number of marriages in February 2022 was 212 times higher than in the same month of the previous year.

By final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 in February 2022 by 77 fewer divorces were pronounced than in February 2021.

Compared to February 2022 compared to January 2022, in February 2022 there were 11,817 children born, by 2,352 fewer children than in January 2022.

The number of deaths recorded in February 2022 was 29,505 (15,603 men and 13,902 women), with 3,190 deaths (1,909 men and 1,281 women) more than in January 2022.

The natural growth remained negative (-17,688) in February 2022, the number of deceased persons being 2.5 times higher than that of live births.

In February 2022, 5,071 marriages were registered at the civil status offices, 644 more than in January 2022. The number of divorces pronounced by final court decisions and according to Law no. 202/2010 was 2,137 in February 2022, by 1,527 more than in January 2022.
