Romania has a real potential for opening new export markets, and institutional dialogue and technical cooperation are essential to Romanian producers, said Chairman of Romania's National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) Alexandru Bociu after a meeting with Chen Feng, China's ambassador in Bucharest.

"Our main objective is to open new export markets. Romania has a real potential, and institutional dialogue and technical cooperation are essential to turn this potential into concrete opportunities for Romanian producers," Bociu said, according to ANSVSA.

The discussions between the two sides reconfirmed the importance of continuing the collaboration between the sanitary and veterinary institutions of the two countries to develop bilateral trade relations and the common interest in strengthening agri-food exchanges.

During the meeting, the results of a March visit to China were highlighted, when the chairmant of ANSVSA signed three protocols that represent the basis of Romania's export to this market.

Although the current volume of Romanian products arriving in China is still low, the growth potential is considerable, according to Bociu.

Another important subject was the prospect of expanding Romanian exports, including poultry exports, against the background of Romania's competitive advantages and the degree of self-sufficiency in segments such as chicken meat and cereals.

The Chinese side expressed interest in continuing the necessary technical stages, and a delegation from the China will carry out audit missions in Romania at business operators interested in exporting to the Chinese market.
