The exhibition called "George Enescu and the Universe of the Arts," which aims to explore not only the musical genius of the great composer, but also his deep relationship with various forms of artistic expression, will open on 5 September, at the Sutu Palace.
As a related event, carried out under the aegis of the "George Enescu" International Festival, the exhibition will showcase lesser-known facets of the composer's complex personality, through some precious objects from the collections of the Bucharest Pinacotheque and the National Museum "George Enescu."
"We invite you to enter a universe where music meets image, exploring the artistic nature of Enescu, the manner in which he perceived and interacted with the surrounding reality, but also the extent of his international recognition," according to a Facebook post by the Bucharest Municipality Museum (MMB).
A special section will be devoted to the manner in which Enescu was captured and immortalized in art, through paintings, sculptures, graphics and photography, providing a unique visual perspective on his public and private image.
A focal point is represented by the section dedicated to the manner in which Enescu was represented in art, a true iconographic corpus which gathers works by leading figures of modern Romanian art, including Gheorghe Anghel, Corneliu Baba, Ottilia Michail Otetelesanu, Milita Petrascu and Gheorghe Tomaziu.
"Through painted portraits, busts, vintage photographs and graphic sketches, a complex image of the musician's public and private identity is shaped, reflecting both the mythical aura he acquired during his lifetime and the profound humanity which comes through from the gazes and gestures captured by the artists. These are complemented by unique objects, such as the baton of conductor George Georgescu, who led the orchestra at the first two editions of the "George Enescu" Festival, or a letter sent by George Enescu to the city's mayor, Dem I. Dobrescu," the MMB informed.
The exhibition organized by the MMB in partnership with "George Enescu" Museum, will be open to the public until 19 October, with free entry to the opening event.
