The minister of environment, waters and forests, Mircea Fechet, on Tuesday will participate in the meeting of the European Union Environment Ministers in Luxembourg, according to the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests representatives.
According to information published on the European Council website, the main topics on the agenda include: end-of-life vehicles, the EU at COP30 - stocktaking and perspectives - and miscellaneous.
As regards end-of-life vehicles, it is expected that ministers will reach an agreement on the Council's position on a new regulation that will replace the current directives on end-of-life vehicles, as well as those on the potential for reuse, recycling and recovery. The main objective of this regulation is to improve the sustainability and circularity of the automotive industry, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
Ministers will also hold an exchange of views on the preparations for the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place in Belem, Brazil, in November 2025.
Under any other business, the presidency and the Commission will provide information on the triple Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 28 April to 9 May 2025, and the French delegation will inform ministers on the outcomes of the 2025 UN Ocean Conference (Nice).
The Commission will also hold an information point on water resilience and another on the assessment of final national energy and climate plans.
During the meeting, the presidency will present information on the call for expressions of interest for the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change.
