Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu said on Wednesday that, regarding the situation in the Middle East, 'the peak of the crisis has passed,' at least from the perspective of assistance requests made by Romanian citizens. According to her, so far there is no information about Romanians having become victims of the conflict.
'Regarding developments in the Middle East, we are at a moment when the peak of the crisis has passed, at least from the perspective of Romanian citizens' requests for assistance. At this moment, more than 5,700 Romanian citizens have safely returned to the territory of Romania. We reiterate the most important information we communicate daily to the general public, namely that from the consular assistance requests and the notifications we receive from the authorities of the countries in the region, up to this moment we have no information about any Romanian being injured and no information about any Romanian who has become a victim of the conflict. And that is the most important thing,' Toiu said at the Palace of Parliament.
The minister underlined that the priority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains the safety of Romanian citizens.
'Regarding evacuation flights, which we recall are organised for vulnerable groups who cannot opt for the available commercial options or who have a significant degree of urgency from the perspective of the time they can still spend in that area, we will also have an evacuation flight tomorrow evening through the Rescue mechanism. It will be a flight dedicated to the last citizens who fall into vulnerable categories in the areas of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Oman. The quota allocated for this evacuation flight is 130 seats. At this moment, colleagues from the consular teams in those areas are contacting those who registered on the formal platforms announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with details regarding this degree of vulnerability - children, minors, especially very young minors, remain a priority along with medical cases. We still have a limited number of medical cases that were not included in the previous flights,' Oana Toiu said.
