Constanta is consolidating its position as a regional energy leader through integrated investments in clean energy production and modern infrastructure, according to Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan.
'Constanta is becoming the energy hub of Romania and the Black Sea region. Together with the ANRE [National Energy Regulatory Authority] president, George Niculescu, the general director of Transgaz, Ion Sterian, the mayor of Constanta, Vergil Chitac, and the deputy mayor, Costin Rasauteanu, we inspected today the progress of the works on the cogeneration unit in Constanta - an investment of over 740 million lei, funded through the PNRR [National Recovery and Resilience Plan] and the state budget, which will generate 52 MW of electricity and 45 MW of thermal energy, also prepared for the use of green hydrogen as a substitute for natural gas. The work is progressing and will be completed by next summer,' wrote Bogdan Ivan in a post published on his Facebook page on Monday.
The Energy minister mentioned that he had focused discussions with the management of Oil Terminal, the largest oil terminal in South-Eastern Europe, which is implementing two major projects: a bitumen terminal with a capacity of 6,000 cubic metres and an annual turnover of about 100,000 tonnes, as well as a 10,000-cubic metre tank, set to be completed this autumn.
'I also returned to Petromidia, where the refinery's cogeneration plant is one of the largest energy efficiency projects in the Dobruja region in recent years. Constanta is strengthening its position as a regional energy leader through integrated investments in clean energy production and modern infrastructure,' Bogdan Ivan also pointed out.
