Minister of National Defense Ionut Mosteanu met on Friday with ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Romania Ozgur Kivanc Altan, with the two officials approaching the recent security developments in the Black Sea region, with an emphasis on the impact generated by Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the National Defense Ministry said in a release.
The efficient cooperation between Black Sea NATO allies Romania, Bulgaria and Türkiye within the Mine Countermeasures Group (MCM Black Sea), an initiative that directly contributes to increasing regional maritime security, was also highlighted.
The two officials welcomed the high level of practical cooperation between the various categories of the two countries' armed forces, materialized through several multinational exercises conducted this year both in Romania and in Türkiye, the cited source mentions.
Also, the National Defense minister underscored the importance of cooperation in the field of military technologies, voicing appreciation for the experience and capacity of the Turkish defense industry, as well as the involvement of Turkish companies in the military equipment programs launched by Romania.
"Romania and Türkiye share a common vision on ensuring a robust defense and deterrence posture on the allied eastern flank, and the development of defense projects contributes to strengthening the operational capabilities of our armed forces and to the implementation of this vision," Mosteanu said, as cited in the release.
The two officials agreed on continuing the political-military dialogue, supported by bolstering joint exercises, strengthening interoperability and solid bilateral cooperation, and aimed at responding to current risks and threats.
