Passenger railway operator CFR Calatori will receive its final four modernized locomotives ahead of schedule, after Softronic announced early delivery, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ciprian Serban said on Thursday on his Facebook page.
"Good news for CFR Calatori. The contract for modernizing 19 locomotives of 5,100 kW will be completed ahead of time. Next week, Softronic will deliver locomotives 16 and 17, and the last two will be ready by the end of May. Once modernized and put into service, they have shown good technical performance and high reliability. I congratulate Softronic for its results, proof that the Romanian railway industry can successfully meet any requirement," the minister wrote.
On December 13, 2023, CFR Calatori signed financing contract No. 45 under the NRRP, Pillar 1 - Green Transition, Component C4 - Sustainable Transport, Investment I2, covering the modernization of 55 electric locomotives, the conversion of 20 diesel-hydraulic shunting locomotives into battery-electric units, and the modernization of 139 passenger coaches.
The rolling stock upgrades are being carried out by six specialized Romanian companies. For electric locomotives, Softronic Craiova is modernizing 19 units, Reloc Craiova another 19, while CFR SCRL Brasov is handling 17 electric locomotives and the 20 shunting locomotives being converted into plug-in battery-electric units.
