Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated on Thursday that, regardless of who leads or is part of the Government, there are problems that cannot be avoided, noting that this year there is a paradox - deficits must decrease, but investments must be maintained at a high value.
Bolojan participated in the General Assembly of the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce.
"For us, there are some priorities and, regardless of who is prime minister, and regardless of who is in the government, there are some things and some problems that we will not be able to avoid and that in a direct or indirect way impact you too. We must maintain our budgetary balances, there is no other way, because we cannot continue with the very large deficits, which create some major problems for us. This means that, in the coming period, we must reduce our state operating expenses and we must adopt some legislation in this regard that derives from the law on administrative reform. This is an important problem", explained the prime minister.
He mentioned that there is a continued need for funds absorption in order to maintain investments at a high value.
"It's a paradox this year, we have to reduce deficits, but maintain our investments at a high value, among the highest, because there is a package of funds that we have to absorb, European funds, and it is a major challenge for us to absorb the 10 billion euros by the end of August, half grants, half loans, but they mean infrastructure to the northeast of Romania, the Moldova Highway, they mean important investments, which create development possibilities, which create opportunities for the business environment. This is a priority and we must pursue it," Ilie Bolojan stated.
The prime minister added that the Government must come up with a package of measures that will increase energy production and storage capacity so that prices can fall, in the next stage.
"Also, an important component is the energy area, everything related to fuels, so that, on the one hand, on the energy side, we come up with a package of measures that will increase our energy production, establish the marketing area and increase our storage capacity, so that we can lower energy prices in the next stage, this can be done and we must do it", Bolojan pointed out.
According to him, it is very important to adopt policies that "do not necessarily mean throwing money into the market".
"We have to do what is right. And what has been done, including in terms of simplification, de-bureaucratization, approvals for large investments, environmental approvals, everything that fire department approvals mean, for example, I think are important things and we have to continue on this path," the head of the Government added.
According to the prime minister, our country will seek to remain in an area of predictability.
"The things we established at the beginning of the year, such as the reduction in the turnover tax, which all of you who have large companies, regardless of whether they are American or Romanian, have noticed to us that it is a tax that inhibits investments, has been reduced by half this year and from January 1 next year we will no longer have this tax, we must tax profits, not investments. We will also try to maintain all other aspects related to taxation, but this requires, on the one hand, controlling our expenditure component, maintaining our financial balances and I hope that the external crises that impact us will not last very long, so that they do not disrupt very much what the balances related to inflation, related to economic growth mean, so that Romania remains a country that is competitive from a business point of view, and on the single tax component, on the payroll component, it is something that will remain and will not be modified", Ilie Bolojan also said.
