A festival blending science and art, titled "The Magic of Glass Beads", will take place this weekend at the Mikó Fortress in Miercurea-Ciuc, Harghita County, with the support of the city hall.
The main organiser, Nagy Péter, a well-known promoter of science popularisation through online presentations and public events in Miercurea-Ciuc, said on Tuesday, at a press conference, that the festival aims to bring science closer to the public in an accessible and enjoyable way.
He noted that the event was designed from the outset as a fusion of science with music, theatre, film, visual arts, and children's games.
Over the three days, scientific presentations will be complemented by exhibitions, concerts, performances, screenings of documentary-art films, and numerous activities for children, including robotics workshops and a "molecule workshop," Nagy Péter added.
The mayor of Miercurea-Ciuc, Korodi Attila, stressed that the municipality supports the event because it has been observed that there are areas that can "beautifully" enrich and broaden the scope of community life.
Mayor Korodi added that art and science will be blended in a captivating and inspiring way, with the programmes designed to bring science closer to the public.
"This moment demonstrates that even in an era when we think artificial intelligence can provide us with all knowledge, science remains far more complex and deeply connected to humanity, and it can be presented in a way that makes it both more engaging and easier to understand," Korodi said.
Deputy Mayor Sogor Eniko remarked that the festival is a true city brand, embodying the essence of the community's experiences, and is important because it aims to reveal 'the human face of science' and its connections to all forms of art
The organizers hope to expand the programs in the future to include additional scientific disciplines beyond astronomy, physics, and cosmology.
