National Defence Minister Radu Miruta had a series of meetings on Friday with senior representatives of the European defence industry, the technology sector and strategic analysis organisations, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

According to a Ministry of National Defence (MApN) press release sent to AGERPRES, the discussions focused on opportunities to expand industrial cooperation, stimulate investment in Romania, develop long-term partnerships and facilitate technology transfer, in line with the objectives of modernising the armed forces and strengthening the European defence industrial and technological base.

During the meetings with Schwarz Group CEO Gerd Chrzanowski, SAP SE member of the Executive Board Thomas Saueressig, MBDA CEO Eric Beranger, and Airbus Defence and Space CEO Michael Schoellhorn, prospects for cooperation were examined in areas such as the production of defence equipment and systems, the digitalisation of industry processes, supply chain resilience and the development of advanced technological capabilities.

The Romanian official underlined that Romania assumes an active role in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture, acting not only as a beneficiary but also as a security provider in the region. In this context, the development of a competitive, interoperable national defence industry integrated into the European ecosystem represents a strategic priority.

The Romanian side's interest in attracting direct investment, implementing joint production and maintenance projects on national territory and creating partnerships contributing to increased strategic autonomy and the strengthening of European industrial capabilities was also highlighted.

Romania is a reliable, predictable partner committed to developing sustainable industrial projects supporting both national security and the consolidation of NATO's European Pillar and the defence dimension of the European Union, the quoted source mentions.

In meetings with senior officials of the Atlantic Council and The Cohen Group, regional security developments, the strengthening of the transatlantic relation, the role of NATO and the European Union, as well as prospects for support for Ukraine and investment in defence were examined.
