Friends "in politics" of those who could be proposed as heads of the Intelligence Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) made the names of those being considered "to appear and their chances to decrease", declared President Nicusor Dan on Thursday.
"There is a mechanism for balancing powers in any democratic system. In our case, the president proposes [the heads of the SRI and SIE]. Parliament decides for each of these services. We had a long list, a short list and some discussions and I hope that very soon we will finish these discussions. So I will propose and Parliament will approve. We will have a discussion beforehand regarding the names that have appeared in the public space. You should know that many of those who are there are very unhappy that their names have appeared, because there are, let's say, friends of theirs in politics and who made their names appear and somehow through this, the chances or at least the theoretical chances of appointment decrease", the head of state said on Digi24.
He mentioned that he had discussed, this week, with the leaders of the Coalition "partially" about the appointments of the heads of the SRI and SIE.
Nicusor Dan said that he wants, in these positions, "people of professional human maturity who have had relationships with many media over time".
