The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bucharest, Victor Chirila, announced that he will end his mandate in Romania on Thursday, but leaves behind a "solid foundation, built on national values and common identity", which will remain "unshakable".
The diplomat will be the neighboring country's ambassador to Kyiv.
"Today, relations between our states are at the best level in their history. In the last four years, the Republic of Moldova and Romania have experienced the most dynamic and prodigious period of development of their bilateral relations. And both states are currently closer than ever to their reunification in the European Union. It was during this period that Chisinau and Bucharest broke the vicious circle of endless discussions about pragmatic cooperation and moved from words to actions and concrete projects for the effective interconnection of energy networks and markets, transport infrastructure, capital markets, and our economic and cultural spaces, with Romania currently becoming the guarantor of our energy security and one of the key partners for our economic development," the ambassador wrote on Facebook.
He believes that these relations, in the context of four years of war in Ukraine, are due "largely to Romania, which has been with us, helping us to deal with the multiple crises that have followed one another: the refugee crisis, the energy crisis, the market crisis, hybrid warfare, cyber attacks".
Chirila adds that Romania has always been by the embassy's side and supported the constitutional referendum, presidential and parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova, and thanks everyone who helped him in this endeavor.
"Tomorrow begins a new stage in my life, which I hope will be at least as successful. Today, however, I say goodbye to Bucharest with a peaceful heart. I leave my colleagues a solid foundation for new projects that will bring us prosperity and reunite our states in the European Union. The Embassy, however, has an essential role: to do everything so that this solid foundation, built on national values and common identity, remains unshakable," says Victor Chirila.
