President Nicusor Dan announced that he received an invitation to participate in the first meeting of the Board of Peace, which will take place in Washington on 19 February, pointing out that the decision on Romania's participation will be taken following consultations with American partners.
'I have received the invitation to participate in the first meeting of the Board of Peace, which will take place in Washington on 19 February. As I have said before, Romania welcomes the efforts of the US Administration to promote peace,' Nicusor Dan said in a post published on his Facebook page on Sunday.
According to him, after receiving the invitation, Romania initiated discussions with the United States to clarify the compatibility of the Board of Peace Charter with the international commitments already undertaken.
'Since receiving the invitation to join the Board of Peace last month, Romania has launched a process of consultations with the United States to clarify to what extent certain provisions of the Board of Peace Charter can be revised or interpreted so that they are fully compatible with the international obligations already assumed by the Romanian state,' Nicusor Dan explained.
The President underlined that the final decision regarding Romania's participation in the 19 February meeting will depend on the outcome of these discussions.
'The decision on Romania's participation in the event on 19 February will be made following discussions with American partners regarding the format of the meeting for countries such as Romania, which are not currently members of the Board but wish to join subject to the revision of the Charter,' the head of state added.
