Special prayers for peace will be raised on Sunday in all churches of the Romanian Patriarchate on the four-year anniversary of the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

According to the Basilica news agency of the Romanian Patriarchate, Orthodox and Romanian priests in the country and abroad will pray in all churches, chapels and monasteries, as well as in chapels and churches of hospitals and social centres for the cessation of enmity, for the change of war-inclined hearts and for the help and consolation of the wounded, refugees and all those affected by the conflict, agerpres reports.

The Prayer for Peace approved by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Christian Orthodox Church will be read out, and special requests for peace will be added to the litanies of the Divine Liturgy.

"You said: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Teach us to seek to acquire peace of heart and peace among individuals and peoples, for, in the heart in which peace dwells, there is no longer enmity, love of dominion or fear, but the comfort of the Holy Spirit, love of God and love of our neighbours.

For this we humbly pray to You, O Christ our God, for peace among human beings in every country, for peace among peoples, and for the welfare of the whole world, that we may live in harmony and may work without hindrance deeds pleasing to You, glorifying the philanthropic love of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen," sounds the last part of the Prayer for Peace, according to Basilica.ro.

On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, with the ensuing conflict being hailed as the largest and bloodiest war in Europe since WWII.
