President Nicusor Dan declared on Tuesday that the letter sent by US President Donald Trump, in which he announces that he will not participate in the Bucharest 9 (B9) Summit on May 13, is a diplomatic one and expresses appreciation for the collaboration with Romania.
The head of state made these clarifications during his visit to the Major Burns Center of the "Pius Brînzeu" County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Timisoara, where he was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete.
"The letter came a few days ago, in response to my invitation and the Polish president's, as you know, Romania and Poland are the initiators and organizers of the B9 summits. A diplomatic letter thanking us for the invitation, thanking us for the collaboration we have, including allowing access to American equipment and soldiers to the Kogalniceanu base and the Câmpia Turzii base and, as for B9, the fact that this invitation was sent to the Secretary of State (Marco Rubio - editor's note) I don't want to go any further now, we'll see", the president detailed.
He recalled that the previous B9 summit took place in Vilnius, in June last year, and according to the protocol, the Bucharest meeting will be attended by "most likely all heads of state or government from the B9 format, plus the Nordic countries", with official announcements to be made after the leaders' confirmations.
