The Cluj County Council announced that the Cluj Arena Stadium will undergo an energy-efficiency upgrade through a project worth approximately 13.5 million euros.

According to the Council, the project includes installing high-performance photovoltaic panels with a total nominal power of 1 MW, replacing the current night-time lighting with a full-LED floodlight system meeting UEFA "Elite, Level A" standards, switching all interior and exterior lighting to LED technology, and installing radiant panels and digital thermostats for heating sanitary areas, agerpres reports.

The investment totals 68,680,419 RON and will be financed from both the county budget and European funds.

"We are continuing our investments in green energy through a new project that aims to capitalise on renewable solar energy and reduce operational costs. Through the installed photovoltaic panels and by switching to LED lighting, including at night, we want to reduce the stadium's electricity consumption by at least 40%! In this way, Cluj County will benefit from a modern, sustainable and energy-efficient sports infrastructure, at the level of that in Western Europe," said Cluj County Council President Alin Tise.
