Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Wednesday that electricity prices are expected to decline from this autumn through to next spring, provided that the measures announced for developing the energy sector are firmly implemented.
The statement came in response to a question regarding when the development directions presented earlier on Wednesday would begin to produce visible effects for the population, in the form of lower energy costs.
"As for price reductions, I believe that if we firmly implement the two measures - supporting investment and storage, and improving regulation - we should start seeing some effects from the autumn. At the latest, by next year we should see significant decreases, as major capacities will come into production, and once access is streamlined and becomes cheaper, I am convinced that serious investors already present in the market - because Romania is a competitive and attractive energy market - will lead to increased output, better balancing and lower prices, also reducing market distortions. We should therefore see effects from the autumn through to spring," Ilie Bolojan said at a press conference at Victoria Palace of Government.
The Prime Minister also noted that the Government is considering several strategic directions for the development of the electricity sector, stressing the need to increase production capacity and improve sector regulation.
