The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) will prepare, as of 2028, policies that will encourage the integration of plant production with animal husbandry, with support to be directed towards farms that generate added value in Romania, according to the relevant minister, Florin Barbu.
He paid a working visit to Calarasi county on Wednesday, where he discussed with farmers the problems in the sector and visited the Maria Trading sheep and cattle slaughterhouse in Dragalina, underlining the role of investments in processing for the development of Romanian agriculture.
"The Ministry of Agriculture consistently supports the livestock sector and is preparing, starting with 2028, policies that will encourage the integration of plant production with livestock. The support will be oriented towards farms that generate added value in Romania," the minister said during the meeting held at the headquarters of the Calarasi County Council, together with farmers.
Also, according to a statement posted on the MADR Facebook account, Florin Barbu mentioned that the proposals and observations of the farmers have been taken over and will be considered in the perspective of revising the regulatory framework, both at the level of the Ministry of Agriculture and in the inter-institutional dialogue, in order to identify possible solutions for the difficulties reported by agricultural producers in Calarasi County and throughout the country.
According to the cited source, the visit to the processing unit in Dragalina highlighted the importance of developing processing capacities in Romania, so that the raw material obtained by Romanian farmers is better utilized, and the added value remains in the national economy.
"Romanian agriculture develops when decisions are made based on the reality on the ground. Direct dialogue with farmers and support for processing investments are essential to build a strong agri-food sector, capable of better utilizing Romanian production and preserving added value in the country," stressed Minister Barbu.
