Hobita, the birthplace of sculptor Constantin Brancusi, is entering the race for the "Destination of the Year" competition in the "Fairytale Villages" category, in the year that marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the artist from Gorj, on February 19th.

According to a press release from the Discover Pestisani Association, Hobiţa is part of the Pestisani Local Route, the National Route - Romania and the Transnational Route Romania - Republic of Moldova of Wooden Churches, the National Route of Traditional Villages in Romania, the Regional Route "Following Constantin Brancusi", the Regional Route "The Peasant Genius Constantin Brancusi and the Cultural Heritage of Gorj County" and the National Route "The Road of Constantin Brancusi from Hobita to Paris", agerpres reports.

Hobita also received certification as a specialized village for material cultural heritage for the "Constantin Brancusi" House Museum and the wooden church in the village.

"The promotion of Constantin Brancusi native lands is a continuous concern of the authorities in the Pestisani commune, as well as of the Discover Pestisani Association. Here it is that in the National Year of Constantin Brancusi, his native village, the village of Hobita, now enters the competition for 'Destination of the Year', a national competition, where there are currently over 250 locations in Romania", the president of the Discover Pestisani Association, Isabela Coara, declared on Tuesday for AGERPRES.

Cultural events such as the Authentic Romania Festival, the Rhapsody of Flowers Festival, and the Stradivarius International Festival are held at Hobita. All of them will take place this year between June 24-28.

Also from Gorj County, the following entered the "Destination of the Year" competition: Polovragi commune, in the "Fairytale Villages" category, Polovragi Cave - "Natural Treasures" category, Targu Jiu municipality - "Inspiring Cities", Ranca - "Tourist Resorts", Gorj Museum of Popular Architecture - "Land of Knowledge", Muierii Cave - "Natural Treasures" and the "Constantin Brancusi" Sculptural Ensemble - "Landmark", according to a post on the Polovragi City Hall's Facebook page.
