Most of the country will enter a Code Yellow warning for bad weather on Monday, at 10:00, while the mountain area of Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj and Hunedoara counties is warned with a Code Orange warning for heavy snowfall.
According to the National Meteorological Administration, until Tuesday at 10:00, in Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Transylvania, Moldavia, northern Oltenia and northeastern Muntenia, there will be snowfall and sleet at first, then mixed precipitation (rain, sleet and in limited areas snowfall) which will favor local frost deposits and ice formation. 10 - 20 l/m2 will accumulate and locally a layer of snow will be deposited, in the mountains of 10 - 20 cm, and in low-lying areas, at the beginning of the interval, a new layer will be deposited, generally of 3 - 10 cm. In the mountains, the wind will intensify with speeds of 50 - 70 km/h, while at altitudes above 1,700 meters, speeds will reach 70 - 85 km/h, temporarily the snow will be slushy and visibility will be low.
Also, an Orange Code will be valid from January 5, 10:00 to January 6, 10:00, during which time in the mountain area of Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Gorj and Hunedoara counties, especially at altitudes above 1,400 meters, it will continue to snow temporarily heavily, and the newly deposited snow layer will be 20 - 30 cm (equivalent in water to 20 - 30 l/m2). At the same time, in the high area there will be gusts of 80 - 90 km/h, there will be strong blizzards and reduced visibility.
