Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete announced on Tuesday that, in the current international context, marked by instability in the Middle East and "real" pressures on the economy, he decided to set up an inter-institutional group to monitor and control the availability of medicines in Romania.

"We are not talking about a crisis at this time, but it would be irresponsible to ignore market signals and external developments. The experience of recent years has clearly shown us that late reaction costs - in patients' access to treatment and in the stability of the system. This group will operate with daily monitoring of stocks and consumption of medicines, with special attention to products at risk of discontinuity", the minister wrote on Facebook.

He stated that, in parallel, the evolution of prices will also be monitored, including the impact of logistics and fuel costs, in order to intervene in time where vulnerabilities appear.

"This technical group operates on the basis of a coordinated approach and has a clear objective: anticipating risks and early intervention, not delayed reaction," Rogobete said.

The main directions of action are:

* permanent monitoring of medicine stocks, especially those exposed to the risk of discontinuity;

* collection and centralization of data on consumption and availability, with early identification of vulnerabilities;

* proposal of concrete measures to ensure continuity of supply, including the redistribution of drugs where necessary;

* identification of alternative supply channels, in accordance with the legal framework;

* permanent coordination with relevant institutions and market operators;

* communication to health professionals regarding therapeutic alternatives, where the situation requires it;

* rapid reporting of any critical situations that require immediate intervention.
