The Minister of National Defense, Vasile Dincu, will participate, on Wednesday and Thursday, in the informal meeting of the ministers of defense of the Member States of the European Union, organized in Brest, under the aegis of the French presidency of the EU Council, informs a release of the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), sent to AGERPRES.
The meeting will start with a working dinner, during which the challenges arising from interference and actions by state and non-state actors in the theatres of operations in which the EU has deployed forces will be discussed, in the presence of the NATO Secretary General, the under-secretary general for peace operations, respectively the chair of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence in the European Parliament.
On the second day of the meeting, the Defence ministers will discuss the security situation at the border of Ukraine with the Russian Federation, as well as in the broader framework of the current debates on the European security architecture.
Also, according to the MApN, in the context of the process of elaboration of the Strategic Compass, the Defense ministers will have a discussion focused on ensuring the consistency of the access of the EU and the member states to the strategic areas of interest (maritime, cyber, space), with emphasis on protecting the Union's interests in the cosmic space, amid the increasing relevance of this strategic area.
The meeting will conclude with a joint debate of the Defence ministers and Foreign Affairs ministers on the basis of a revised version of the Strategic Compass project, during which political direction will be offered for further negotiations of the text, to be approved in March this year.
On the sidelines of the event, the Romanian Minister of Defense Vasile Dincu will have a meeting with the French Minister of Armed Forces, Florence Parly.
