Boosting the projects and reforms undertaken by Romania through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), as well as aligning the priorities of cohesion policy and of the future EU multiannual financial framework with the country's funding needs were the main topics discussed at the meeting between Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness.

According to a Government release, Prime Minister Bolojan said he is closely monitoring the implementation of investments and the fulfilment of targets and milestones under the PNRR, in order to recover delays and ensure that Romania capitalizes the most on the funds available through this European mechanism.

Moreover, the Prime Minister and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission analysed the priority projects financed through the cohesion policy and the current multiannual financial framework, underlining the importance of aligning Romania's active social measures, including those targeting vulnerable citizens, with solutions applied at European level.

"I thank you and your team for the constant support provided to Romania. It is important to continue working just as closely to align European social interventions with the needs of the Romanian society and with the expectations of our citizens," Prime Minister Bolojan said, as quoted in the release.

Roxana Minzatu presented the European Commission's priority initiatives for 2026 in the areas of social inclusion, employment and vocational and technical education. She brought to mind that the first European Anti-Poverty Strategy, designed to address the structural causes of inequality, will be presented in the coming period.

"The initiative calls for effective collaboration between local, regional and European administrations. This includes measures such as social housing and hot meals to support vulnerable people. At the same time, the needs of young people aged between 16 and 29 who are neither in employment nor in education must become a top priority for the European Union, also reflected in the future financial framework," the release said.

Furthermore, in September, the Labour Mobility Package will be launched, targeting 15 million workers in the transport, agriculture, hospitality and other sectors. The presentation of a European package on vocational and technical education is also scheduled, as part of the European Skills Agenda. This package aims to strengthen cooperation between Member States, modernise vocational and technical education and promote digitalisation in education.

The two officials also discussed the future European budget.

"Romania can position itself as a strong voice among Member States, making its vision for an ambitious budgetary dimension known and putting forward proposals for European policies," Roxana Minzatu said on this matter.

The meeting held at the Victoria Palace, alongside PM Ilie Bolojan, was also attended by Investments and European Projects Minister Dragos Pislaru, the head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca, the State Secretary with the Ministry of Labour, Ciprian Vacaru and State Adviser within the Prime Minister's Chancellery Luminita Odobescu.
