A project aimed at the effective management of non-reimbursable external funds and monitoring their contribution to Romania's sustainable development through fostering a culture of sustainability is to be launched on Tuesday in Bucharest, at a conference also attended by European Commission Executive Vice-President Roxana Minzatu.

According to a government press release, the conference, hosted at the Sheraton Hotel between 12:00 and 16:30, will bring together more than 150 representatives of central and local public administration, European institutions and partner organisations involved in the project.

Entitled "Effective management of non-reimbursable external funds and monitoring their contribution to Romania's sustainable development through fostering a culture of sustainability and enhancing the knowledge of central and local public administration staff in the field of sustainable development and the circular economy', the project is implemented in partnership by the Ministry of Investments and European Projects, the General Secretariat of the Government - through the Department for Sustainable Development and the Directorate for Internal Managerial Control and Interinstitutional Relations - the National Institute of Statistics and the National Institute of Administration.

Also attending will be Deputy Prime Minister Barna Tanczos; Deputy Prime Minister Dragos Pislaru; Minister of Investments and European Funds Radu Oprea; Secretary General of the Government Laszlo Borbely, State Adviser and coordinator of the Department for Sustainable Development; Ioana Roxana Melenciuc-Ioan, President of the National Institute of Administration; and Tudorel Andrei, President of the National Institute of Statistics.

The project's main objective is the effective management and monitoring of non-reimbursable external funds and their contribution to Romania's sustainable development by strengthening administrative capacity and increasing the efficiency of Managing Authorities, beneficiaries, relevant partners and central and local public administration institutions.

"Implemented over four years, the project will ensure coherence between Cohesion Policy and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), providing an updated map of non-reimbursable external funding in correlation with the SDGs. It will also strengthen competencies by training 200 individuals across the eight development regions in sustainable development and the circular economy, through programmes delivered by the National Institute of Administration, and 250 employees from ministries and other central public administration institutions, potential or current beneficiaries of external funding, in the field of statistics for sustainable development, through workshops provided by the National Institute of Statistics, thereby contributing to an efficient, digitalised and sustainability-oriented administration," the release said.

The project, financed from the European Social Fund Plus under the Technical Assistance Operational Programme 2021-2027, will run for 40 months, from November 2025 to February 2029, with a total budget of RON 11,022,259.83, of which RON 5,802,855.27 represents EU co-financing.
