All seven people who died on Tuesday in a traffic accident on Romania's National Road DN 6 in Timis County were supporters of the PAOK Thessaloniki football team coached by Romanian Razvan Lucescu, the Greek Embassy in Romania confirmed for AGERPRES.

The minibus, registered in Greece, was heading to France, where PAOK is scheduled to play Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday in the final round of the Europa League.

According to Greek media, an Embassy team will leave at 5:00 p.m. for the scene of the accident.

"The police promptly responded to the scene, where they found that the 29-year-old driver of the minibus bound from Caransebes to Lugoj attempted to overtake a vehicle but veered into the opposite lane and subsequently collided head-on with a long-haul truck traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the impact, seven people died (the driver of the minibus and six passengers), and three minibus passengers were injured," the Timis County Police Inspectorate said.

Police have opened a criminal case for manslaughter and negligent bodily harm and are continuing investigations to determine all causes and circumstances of the crash.

The match between Lyon and PAOK is scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 p.m. at the OL Stadium in Décines, near Lyon, in the eighth round of the Europa League. OL leads the standings with 18 points, while PAOK is in 12th place with 12 points.
