A shipment of textile waste was stopped at the Romanian border, at the Siret Border Crossing Point, the Border Police authorities announced.

According to officials, the truck, carrying 16 tonnes of waste, came from Ukraine and was destined for a company in Bucharest. It was halted at the border following an operation conducted by border policemen from the Siret Border Police Sector, together with customs inspectors from the Siret Customs Office and representatives of the Suceava Environment Guard, agerpres reports.

"At the Siret Border Crossing Point, Suceava county, a 36-year-old Ukrainian citizen arrived to complete entry formalities, driving a truck registered in Ukraine. According to the accompanying documents, he was transporting 16,100 kg of textile waste (clothing and various textile mixtures) from a company in Ukraine to a company in Bucharest. Due to suspicions regarding the legality of the transport, the joint control team, made up of border police and customs inspectors, requested authorised support from the Suceava Environment Guard. Following the checks, it was determined that the goods could not enter Romanian territory because the transporter did not have all the necessary documents," the Border Police officials mentioned.

The control authorities did not allow the transport vehicle or its cargo to enter Romania and ordered the truck to return to Ukraine.
