Secretary of State for Euro-Atlantic Bilateral and Strategic Affairs George Ciamba with Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) welcomed on Monday Dutch MP and Spokesperson on European Affairs of the Netherlands' People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) Anne Mulder. The meeting occasioned an exchange of opinions regarding the future of Europe, Brexit, the Schengen Area and the developments of the Western Balkans area, a release of the MAE sent to Agerpres informed.
The Romanian dignitary hailed the development of the bilateral relations, marked by the increase of the commercial exchanges and the expansion of Dutch companies in Romania, taking into account that the Netherlands ranks 1st in terms of investments in our country, the quoted source mentions.
According to the MAE, the discussions also occasioned an exchange of views regarding the future of Europe, Brexit, the Schengen area and the developments of the Western Balkans region. Secretary of State George Ciamba showed that the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU will grant a special attention to organising the Summit in Sibiu, which will represent a benchmark in respect to the future of the European Union, especially in the context of the current challenges which the community block is confronted with.
Also tackled was the topic related to the enlargement of the EU, context in which the State Secretary mentioned that Romania endorses the positive role of this policy through the investment it brings to strengthening peace, security, prosperity and stability of the Union. Thus, the Western Balkans region and the Eastern Partnership will receive a special attention from the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the MAE release points out.
In respect to the security issue, the two officials underscored the shared interests in the enlarged region of the Black Sea and the similar approach regarding the role of NATO and the transatlantic relation.
Moreover, the two officials also talked about Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's visit to Romania on 12 September.
