The Romanian Police has participated in the 16th international action of the European Network of Railway Police Forces (RAILPOL) called "RAIL ACTION DAY - 24 BLUE" organised simultaneously in Europe to exercise railway transport security.
According to a press statement released by the Romanian General Police Inspectorate (IGPR), more than 400 transport police officers participated in a 24-hour nationwide mission under the coordination of the Transport Police Directorate - the Romanian General Police Inspectorate, carrying out inspections in 270 railway stations, 346 passenger trains and 54 freight trains, identifying over 900 persons.
Under the action, 107 ferrous and non-ferrous scrap collection centres were checked, with over 500 kilograms of illegally acquired scrap having been impounded.
At the same time, criminal files have been drawn up on 15 persons, four of whom for aggression, violence or antisocial behaviour, three for vandalism and eight for other types of crime.
"On November22 and 23, the participating RAILPOL states carried out checks at stations and in trains for the prevention and combatting of criminal offences in the railway transport system," according to IGPR.
RAILPOL is an international association of EU member states responsible for public order and safety in the rail transport sector.
The main objective of the association is to intensify, at European level, international railway police cooperation for the safety of passengers.
