National Liberal Party (PNL) Maramure Senator Cristian Niculescu-Tagarlas and the MP of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania, Nicolae Miroslav Petretchi, participated in the Resilience Forum "Ukraine and allies in the fight against global challenges", held in the Ukrainian town of Yasinia, in the Transcarpathian region.
According to a social media post of the Romanian Consulate in Solotvino, the meeting held on Tuesday and Wednesday addressed assistance and cooperation amid the ongoing war caused by Russia.
The event brought together representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, diplomats, soldiers, military attachés and officials of public bodies from nine European states.
"Discussions focused on strengthening international cooperation, regional security, rapid responses to global challenges, increasing professional skills and practical training, as well as identifying new assistance and cooperation mechanisms with Ukraine, with the main objective being to support efforts to repel the Russian Federation's aggression," the Romanian Consulate in Solotvino said in its post.
Cross-border cooperation is essential because of the war taking place in Ukraine.
"Romania has the longest border with Ukraine (649.4 km) and has remained an honest partner in all these years. The current security context is becoming increasingly more complex, which requires a prompt and efficient response, accompanied by the optimisation and expansion of cooperation channels in our area of competence. A symbolic and emotional moment of events took place on January 21, 2026, when the national flag of Romania was hoisted by our representative, on the highest mountain peak in Ukraine, Hoverla Peak (2061 m), together with the delegations of the nine participating states," the quoted source also mentioned.
